Valerie poses by the Donald so we remember where we parked Same section as where we parked last year: https://www.akira3d.com/Photography/Friends/2018-Disneyland/i-GFbSg3n/A
Does this count as a ride?
The castle...the man...the mouse
This may be the first time Valerie and I have paid to enter Disneyland in decades thanks to a friend who used to work for Disney. He decided to resign just over a year ago.
It's always fun to return to Disneyland, walk down a familiar path, turn a corner, and then see something completely new...in today's case, a whole new themed land. Welcome to the much anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge!
And this is likely the highlight of everyone's visit to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu...seeing the Millennium Falcon for realz!
We hop in line for Smuggler's Run, currently the only open ride in Galaxy's Edge. A quick check of the Disneyland App shows a wait time of 70 minutes
This attraction does not yet have a Fast Pass, so we wait...better early than during the forecast 90+ degree temperatures
Appreciating all of the little details
Even the trash cans have been appropriately themed
I'm getting a definite Jak 3 vibe from the surrounding architecture...this could easily be redressed as Spargus City
Getting closer to the Falcon!
That's no moon. Oh wait, it IS the Moon!
Since when does the S9's selfie camera default to auto-crop...recomposing shots around a single subject? I'm consantly forgetting to select multiple mode.
Falcon selfie...too bad there is a guy wearing a green shirt behind us
Standing next to the Millennium Falcon is one of those childhood dreams I never thought would be ever realized unless I managed to work on a Star Wars film. I did attend USC's film school with the idea I might one day work at ILM, but I never bothered to apply...even when I learned more Star Wars films were going into production. Of course, it wouldn't have mattered during production of the prequels...since George Lucas favored CG over practical.
I never owned Kenner's Millennium Falcon playset as a kid, partly because I found its proportions to be way off. I built the model kit and played with it instead, but I did not bother to paint it. This Falcon feels far more accurate to the movies than that model.
The engines have that blue glow
The line almost completely wraps around the Falcon
Too bad this is the sequel Trilogy Falcon...I prefer the round radar dish (thanks, Lando)
