DAY 11 - After another breakfast buffet at the hotel, Valerie and I head to the porte-cochère to wait for our guide and driver
This is the first morning they are not at our hotel when they said they would be. On the other days they arrived early.
And given how flooded the streets remain, there is genuine cause for concern. I have not seen a single vehilce yet. Perhaps we will be spending the whole day at the hotel?
Finally a vehicle drives by, but we are not exactly relieved. The River Road looks considerably more flooded than it was last night!
Our amphibious van has arrived!
Valerie slips off her shoes and walks barefoot to the van
My turn to climb aboard
We cross the intersection near Viroth's Restaurant (where we dined last night), but this time from the comfort of our tour van.
A father and daughter ride a scooter on the flooded streets of Siem Reap
Crazy angled shot of a wild situation that does not seem to phase the locals at all
We are back in the countryside
A child carrying a bucket smiles as he wades through the wet fields
Water buffalo in a very wet rice field
Buffalo slowly clear the way for our van. Note that the roads here are not paved...so they could easily be washed away by flooding.
This apparently is/was a rice field. I suspect this water may have spilled over from Tonlé Sap Lake during the recent storms.
We intercept the boats a bit further north because the road to the docks is flooded
Here comes our boat
Our captain(?) carefully points the boat towards deeper water
Chen, our guide, and Valerie
As our boat pulls out of the makeshift harbor, we see someone working in the water
Valerie takes a picture of me with my HTC EVO4G so I can share the photo as soon as we return to the hotel
I take a picture of Valerie taking a picture of me with my smartphone (Photo by Valerie)
