DAY 09 - I did not need to run 9 miles to build up my appetite for Gazebo (at Napili Shores)...unfortunately, there is already a line
The weather makes the wait to be seated a bit more tolerable
I get a seated at the perfect table overlooking the ocean. Too bad Valerie is working this morning...she is missing out on the best pineapple-banana-mac nut pancakes!
After breakfast, I catch a sea turtle swimming in nearby Napili Bay...just as he pokes his head through the surface
The greenish-brown masses within the cresting waves are more sea turtles
There's a nice view of Molokai from Napili Bay
Valerie has been very excited about the recently opened Maunalei Arboretum Trail, the first of over 100 miles of planned walking and hiking trails throughout the Kapalua Resort's 23,000 acres
The only way to reach the trailhead is by catching shuttle that departs from the Honolua Village Center
Unfortunately, Valerie has to work today, so I'm on my own...all alone!
Right-hand rule...I start with the Lower Arboretum Loop
Suddenly I feel like I've stepped into Uncharted: Drake's Fortune...
...and here I've come to Hawaii to forget about work
I'm still on the right path
This trail runs through an arboretum created 80 years ago by D.T. Fleming, manager of the Honolua Ranch...so I should see a wide variety of plant and trees on this hike
Some areas are bit too shadowy to photograph
Welcome to Jurassic Park
Just stick with the right-hand rule and I should be fine, right?
I come to a clearing
The view doesn't escape the arboretum from this vantage point
Still, this is a beautiful spot
These trees are definitely not indigenous
Uh...I think I should continue on to the Arboretum Trail
A gate? I guess this is to keep out (or in) various animal species
