The Pigeon Point Lighthouse is the first and only stop we make during our drive from Half Moon Bay to Monterey
We stop long enough to take pictures...nothing more
We have a lot planned for our only day in Monterey, so it is time to move on
Once in Monterey, we check into our room at the Marriott (this view is nicer than the room itself, so I won't bother pointing the camera inward)
We leave the Marriott on foot, heading first to the nearby marina (since we're hungry, we skip this museum - visitor center)
After a short walk, we arrive at Old Fisherman's Wharf
Upon recommendation, we stop for lunch at Cafe Fina
Italian...seafood...tasty...and a good location
Trust me...it is NEVER a good idea to stand under a flock of seagulls
After walking around the pier, we head down Cannery Row
The Monterey Plaza Hotel looks like a nice place to stay
We find a dolphin fountain on the ocean-view side of the hotel...and a panoramic view of Monterey Bay
We continue our walk down Cannery Row...
...a touristy spot...
...with shops and restaurants...
...and an all-important Starbucks!
Though we enjoyed the Bubba Gump on Maui and are looking forward to one opening in Santa Monica, we pass on this one (after all, we just ate!)
Our destination is at the far end of Cannery Row - the Monterey Bay Aquarium
Not that Valerie cares, but this is the aquarium that served as a backdrop for "Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home"...
...the film about saving the whales (Humpback, not Killer)
As we walk around the aquarium, we see...birds
Actually, we did see really cool displays of jellyfish and sea otters, but they didn't photograph very well
Fish and some sharks swim near the birds
I'm not even sure what this thing is
