When we arrive at Grandma's, I unleash the girls...but we must close them in the back of the house because of Squeaker (Grandma's new addition to the family)

Before I leave, Moka gets into the living room and can smell something is not quite right

As this is our first snowboarding trip in our Model X, I am a bit curious to see how its cargo capacity compares to our Honda Pilot. The Tesla's Falcon Wing Doors may make it easy to place things in the back, but they sacrifice any ability to mount a roof rack. That said, I opted for the six seat configuration so I would have a space between the middle row seats...a space large enough for snowboards or skis.

Of course, this means I must pack our boards in a bag to protect the interior from getting scratched up...and those boards, even when tilted, do eat into the rear cargo space. I cannot angle them more because we will be transporting a friend and his board as well. The rear cargo space is a bit narrower than the Pilot's as well. Fortunately, it has a deep and fairly sizeable space below the mat that I can place a couple of bags in...so there's still room for my friend's bags and gear. That said, fitting four in here would be a squeeze.

Unlike our Pilot, our Tesla also has a frunk...but it is not enough to offset the loss of space due to the boards. The only realistic way to transport four to the mountains in a Model X would be to pack extremely light or to place our boards on a hitch mounted rack or box (which has always been a consideration)

While I am curious to see how Model X's all wheel drive handles snow, I am hoping we do not actually have to drive on the white stuff. Snow chains compatible with Tesla's unique suspension design are quite expensive, so I have not bought a set...and I have less reason to buy pricey snow tires. In over 10 years of driving our Pilot to Mammoth, I probably needed chains twice.

Electric road trip means I will need to visit one or more Superchargers and this is only my second road trip in Model X. Our first stop is at the Mojave Tesla Supercharger...and this one is only just getting warmed up.

Anthony's Grill may be the highest Yelp rated option in the area (and it is also the closest to the Supercharger), but they are not open on Sundays

As we walk over to the nearby Thai restaurant, I notice the charging rate has already picked up considerably

By the time we are seated at Primo Burgers (despite looking open, the Thai place closed just minutes before we arrived), the charging rate has hit 322 miles per hour. We only need to be here 15 minutes if we want to make it to Lone Pine...but, since we are eating here, we should be able to reduce the length of our stop there by quite a bit.

At a place called Primo Burgers, Valerie dares to order a Philly Cheese Steak. When it arrives, she promptly starts scraping the excessive goop. Not a good sign.

Pete and I play it safe and order bacon cheeseburgers. These are probably the driest burgers either of us have ever eaten. In fact, everything about our meal is dry. I guess we should not be surprised...we are in the middle of a desert!

We head back to the car...still the only Tesla at this Supercharger location. A Model S had stopped here shortly after we arrived, but was probably gone long before we received our dinner order.

The best part of Supercharging is that it is included in the price of our vehicle...no additional charge to get additional charge

Our second Supercharger visit of this trip is in Lone Pine. I snapped a reconnaissance photo of this location during one of our last Mammoth trips in our Honda Pilot...knowing that I might be doing this sooner than later.

I check the charging status as we start our walk...we need to be stay in Lone Pine for at least 20 minutes, so we'll wait 30 just to be safe.

Pete cannot process that the McDonald's in Lone Pine is actually closed. As far as I know, the chain has never operated any location for 24 hours...and this is the latest we have ever attempted to stop here. Aside from one bar, nothing appears to be open in town.
