JANUARY - For the New Year, Valerie has resolved to join me on my runs more often...not to run, but to simply not let the pandemic prevent her from getting outside
Our first selfie of 2021
Valerie is going to hike south from Roessler Point to Bluff Cove while I run a loop starting north in the hope that we'll meet in Bluff Cove
It's been awhile since I have run across the soft sand of Rat Beach
...so it seems like the right way to start a new year
I have run by The Neighborhood Church many times, but never really paid attention to it...
...until Valerie mentioned it its name as we drove by the other day
Another reminder that LA County is still under lockdown due to the pandemic
As expected, I intercept Valerie on Bluff Cove Trail. She is already heading back from the cove.
I run down to the cove
A former coworker told me this is a popular surfing spot, but the surfers here are apparently very territorial

I stick close to the water when I run back towards Malaga Cove Intermediate School so I can enjoy the view of Torrance Beach
Before re-intersecting Paseo Del Mar, the Blufftop Trail branches to what looks like another trail down to the water
Looks a little dicey though...so I decide against going down
After meeting up with Valerie at Roessler Point, she insists on following the trail down towards Rat Beach (even though I have already been down there during my run)
The waves crash on the rocks behind her
Valerie doesn't remember walking down to Rat Beach from Malaga Cove before (but I'm sure I have pictures of us doing so)
Boom!
Valerie has joined me once again so she can hike while I run. Since I have to run further today, I suggest we start and end at Pelican Cove...which should put Abalone Cove Reserve well within her reach if she walks directly there from the parking lot.
Meanwhile, I will start my run by sticking to the Bluff Top Trail around Terranea...
