JANUARY - Our hummingbird feeders have been working overtime this winter...we rarely see three using the same station at once. This feeder usually doesn't attract much attention until the one by the kitchen window is empty, but this particular batch is going very quickly.

Valerie says this is the same exact brew as the other one as they were filled at the same time

Valerie yells to me from the kitchen...so I come out to see what is the big deal. Apparently we have two peafowl wandering around our backyard. Last time we saw peafowl on our property was in security camera footage.

I still haven't managed to capture a good photo of these birds in flight...or even leaping (just missed seeing the peacock jump to the fence...even on video)

Ooh...I need to get this on video

When I realize the birds are still on the roof and doubling back to our pool, I grab my DSLR and step outside hoping to catch one flying down from the roof. I have left the 100mm macro lens on the camera because I didn't want to risk taking the time to change lenses.

This particular lens gets me pretty close, but can still focus if they come even closer

Valerie still isn't too crazy about these birds...note that she never comes out when peafowl are on our property

Ugh...I'm too close when the bird decides to fly back up to our roof. I needed to up the shutter speed even more.

The bird is mocking me now

The peacock is coming to the corner of the roof over our living room...

...maybe he'll fly over to the deck

Meh

Both are on the roof

They continue towards the top

And they're going to the front yard

The two complete their tour of our roof

And suddenly it starts to rain...hard...

So my camera got wet

Flash got wet too. If I wasn't in such a rush to catch a photo of the birds, I would have taken it off before heading outside...not that I expected it to start raining

Heavy rain came on schedule...and our pool is nearly overflowing again

The sump pump is running, but I will stop it before I leave for work
