Missing Monjiro, a Torrance restaurant that was our go-to destination for udon until they unexpectedly closed a couple of years ago, Valerie and I decide to make the trek to Little Tokyo so we can try their supposed sister restaurant Marugame Monzo
Like Monjiro, we can watch as they make the noodles
However I do not remember seeing a blade at Monjiro
As this is our first visit, Valerie listens to waitress' recommended and goes with the Mentai Squid Butter Udon
I opt for the Miso Carbonara Udon...because bacon!
This is rich creamy bacony goodness...very different from what I usually ordered at Monjiro. Next time I will try their curry for a more direct comparison. Both Valerie and I knock their noodles for being overcooked.
And Valerie shared her egg...meaning it wasn't perfectly gooey inside. Better than Santouka, but served cold with a yolk that's just a bit too bit solid.
Marugame Monzo is a hole in the wall right next to Daikokuya, a ramen joint I still have not yet tried.
