After checking out Model 3, Valerie and I are dying of hunger. We head upstairs, eager to check out Eataly. This combination marketplace and food court opened at Westfield Century City late last year...around the time I was here to celebrate the re-opening of the Tesla showroom here.
Should we start with dessert?
Cheese! We'll go somewhere where there's cheese!
Soft cheese
Stacks of whole wheel Parmigiano
We don't need to go to the moon to get cheese
It goes without saying that they have fresh pasta here!
Meat!
Mmmmmmm...Tomahawk Ribeye
We hop into line for one of the restaurants...parallel to the fish counter
Eating here can be a bit confusing as there are numerous lines for similar sounding establishments. For instance, we read the instructions on the wall for "La Piazza" but get in line for "La Pizza and La Pasta" and wonder from where we get a menu.
The line advances...now we're on the other side of the cheese vendor we saw earlier
Getting closer to the front. If we had been a group of four, we could have been seated right now
We have reached the menu, but not the front of the line
We could have skipped the line and just ordered from La Piazza...but then we would have to find our own seat
From the front of the line, we can watch pasta being made
After nearly an hour of waiting in line, we are finally seated at La Pizza and La Pasta inside Eataly...and we are starving. We really should have eaten lunch when we first arrived at Westfield Century City rather than check out a certain car.
The Tagliatelle al Ragu is supposedly their most popular pasta...and it is indeed delicious. The brisket and the homemade noodles make this one worth a visit.
We go with the waiter's recommendation for the pizza and order the Salsicciotta. The crust is soft and a bit doughier than what Valerie and I like and the sausage has been distributed very unevenly. We far prefer the pies at Eatalian Cafe in Gardena.
After we finish our meal, we head downstairs to check out the gelato...but the line is out the door! So we head to Valerie's favorite spot on Sawtelle instead. She's happy they have coconut again...pineapple coconut. Even I like hers (but I went with my usual strawberry).
