Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric - GDC 2013 Teaser
On the art-side, I was responsible for composing the shots, animating the cameras, setting up the time-of-day lighting, creating all of the particle and atmospheric effects, and editing the final sequence. On the tech-side, I modified the code for several of CryEngine 3's shaders and authored tools to streamline our Maya-to-CryEngine export pipeline.
Our team created this environment as our visual benchmark for this project at the end of 2011, long before it became a WiiU exclusive. At that time we were targeting next-generation consoles with specs that had not yet been publicized.
Many shots from this sequence were shown at GDC 2013, included as part of Crytek's CryEngine 3 trailer...the first public display of any content created by our studio (Crytek simply titled our clips "Big Red Button"). That said, SEGA had not yet announced our game, so we had to remove the big loops looming over the valley since people may have guessed their connection to the Sonic franchise.
